My Mother as our teacher
By Marycarol Cherokee
Our Mother was the best teacher we had. She had been a School teacher before she married our Father. As women did not work outside the home, after marriage, she retired after they married. But, she taught us as soon as we could understand, by reading to us. Sometimes, she just told stories, if we didn't have a book with the story in it. We didn't have many books when I was a small child. I imagine, there was no money for books. But Mother had some books from her teaching years. My Father was a farmer, and it was just after the Depression which began in 1929. As we got older, she helped us with our School work, if we needed it. Actually, I didn't need help, because she had taught me so well, I could get what was being taught. One time, a teacher had to leave in the middle of the school year. Since Mother was right there, the school board asked her to fill in. Our Dad had to resign from the school board, so she could teach. I think my brother didn't like it very much, because she taught his room. But, I was happy to have her teach in our school. An old friend came and stayed with us, to help with the housework, while Mother taught. She was not related to us, but we always called her Aunt. |

Mothers can really be great teachers. I remember one time I was showing someone how to build websites. About the forth time I mentioned that the website I was using to illustrate a particular skill was based on an email my mother sent me the student said, "Boy I would really like to meet your mother". I had to chuckle at that thought.
not all beings are blessed with a good mother but it is a blessing to read the good things other people have about their mothers..
